Richard Guest began his kitchen career “at the helm of a big stainless steel sink in a rubber apron and Marigold gloves” washing dishes for the Hudson Hotel in York at age 15. As was common for many chefs of the time, it wasn’t a love of food or the family centred kitchen that inspired him, but rather chefs’ stories and the tense, aggressive atmosphere during service that seduced him into his career choice.

Since then, Richard’s career has spanned from the Savoy kitchens to the Four Seasons and eventually landed him as head chef at The Castle Hotel where he earned a Michelin star. Today, Richard is chef proprietor of the much beloved Augustus Restaurant in Taunton.
