As leading chefs, what do you do when you move to the West Country and have over 30 years of professional culinary experience under your belt? You open a multi-award-winning gastropub, of course!
Co-owners, Paul and Donna Berry, re-opened Bampton’s oldest pub, The Swan, in 2012 and have not looked back. They have since accumulated two AA rosettes for culinary excellence, were voted Best Trencherman’s Pub in 2016, are on the Estrella Damm Awards 2017 list for top 50 gastropubs, and their inn is AA four star rated.
They used to cater mainly for the Bampton locals, but now they’re receiving guests from London and beyond. And with classic, locally-sourced dishes such as Spiced Rump of Exmoor Lamb and Beer Battered Brixham Haddock, it’s not hard to see why.
“We are dedicated to using all the local or regional produce available to us, and we’re lucky to be living here in the West Country with all the local farmers supplying their beef, pork and lamb and the fishing communities providing us with the freshest fish.”
